Hi, Welcome to hackShanghai!

HackShanghai is the first and largest college hackathon in China. 250 participating graduate and undergraduate students will be accepted to join this 24-hour carnival of innovation. With their own team, each will build tech products within the time limit.

In 2014 and 2015, we invited 250 hackers out of 1500 applications each year from over 100 top universities in China and around the globe, including Harvard, Tsinghua U, Peking U, MIT, and Caltech. And our past sponsors include ICBC, Goldman Sachs, IBM, DBS, and more.

HackShanghai adopted the same mission and model currently employed by universities such as MIT, Yale or Harvard. We aim to bring together different innovators, each with their own views of the world. With vastly different perspectives, we want to see how technologies can strive to bridge the gap between humans and leave a positive impact in the world.

What is hackShanghai?

hackShanghai is the model of innovation and driving force of the current hackathon movement in Asia. Having already had very successful events in 2014 and 2015, HackShanghai has been collaborating with and supporting the development of several major hackathons, including Unique Hack Day, HackNTU and THacks.

How much will this cost?

Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch. We'll provide you with a weekend's worth of swag, meals, drinks, and snacks and a place to crash when you need a break from coding. In fact, we'll even reimburse your travel.

Who can participate?

Anyone is welcome to participate, providing if you are currently enrolled in an educational institution (high school, university or grad). hackShanghai is a high-level hackathon that prior experience in STEM is required. For an entrey-level event. please checkout hack.init().

What if I am under 16 and I want to come?

Please send us an email with your personal information. We may be able to invite you to our events, but the decision depends on your health and a permission from your guardian.

How will I get to hackShanghai?

For Shanghai hackers, you can get to ShanghaiTech University easily by public transportation which will not be reimbursed. We do provide travel reimbursement to non-Shanghai hackers. More information will be available to you once accepted.

What's the event schedule?

hackShanghai will commence at 8 am, July 21 and last until 4:30 pm, July 22. More detailed schedule will be available closer to event date.

What should I bring?

Bring your government-issued ID for entrance and to borrow hardware from our rental booth. You’ll also need your laptop and charger for hacking, a blanket or a sleeping bag for resting, and toiletries for hygiene.
